Overview

TAP Architects, a Scottish architectural practice based in Edinburgh, has recently specified P C Henderson's Shutter Slide system for a contemporary garden house project.

Requirements

The project brief called for a solution that would deliver privacy and solar shading to the garden house when required, whilst maintaining an aesthetic appearance. This was achieved through the installation of a sliding shutter system, allowing the shutters to glide along the track to enable the flow of natural light when open or provide privacy when closed.

To meet the building's modern aesthetic, the system was combined with metal frame shutters featuring timber slats for a industrial look. A key design element of the project was to maintain a clean, contemporary appearance, meaning the system needed the flexibility to be integrated within the buildings structure, with all hardware concealed to achieve a minimalistic finish.

Finally the project brief also required a system that would allow the shutters to fully cover the window when closed, while accommodating a limited wall reveal to house the door.

Solution

Following a detailed review of the project requirements, P C Henderson's Shutter Slide system was identified as the most suitable solution. Designed to cater for various configurations - including telescopic and simultaneous action panels - Shutter Slide can accommodate large openings whilst allowing the doors to stack neatly when open to minimise the wall reveal required.

To provide full flexibility of the system, Shutter Slide offers a wide range of hangers and guide options, as well as the ability to be face fixed and soffit fixed. In this project, the system was soffit fixed within the buildings structure and combined with a concealed guide option to give the appearance of floating shutters.

To ensure high performance in demanding applications, Shutter Slide is manufactured using high quality materials, with key elements produced from 316 marine-grade stainless steel, ensuring durability and longevity.
