When planning to install an internal folding door system, there are several important factors to consider ensuring smooth operation, long-term reliability, and a setup that truly suits your space. In this blog, we'll explore the key considerations you will need to make before installation to help you choose the right system for your project and achieve the best possible results.
Door Weight
Door weight is a critical factor when selecting a folding door system, as it directly determines how the panels are supported, guided, and operated. Folding door systems are designed and tested to specific maximum weight capacities and therefore it is essential the door weight does not exceed these limits to ensure a smooth, safe operation as well as preventing issues such as sagging, misalignment, or premature wear of components.

Configurations
Folding door systems offer a range of configurations to suit a variety of applications. Panels can fold to one side of the opening for a neat, compact stack, or split to fold to both sides where balanced access or visual symmetry is preferred. The number of door panels is largely down to project preference, allowing designs to range from simple two-panel arrangements to multi-panel systems that create a strong architectural feature while delivering the desired opening functionality. For ease of access between rooms when the doors are in the closed position, why not incorporate a swing door?
Top Hung vs Bottom Rolling
Folding door systems operate using either a top hung or bottom rolling mechanism and understanding how each system works is essential when specifying the right solution for a project. The difference lies in how the door's weight is supported and how that affects performance, structure, and usability.

Top Hung systems carry the door weight from an overhead track, creating a clean aesthetic which is ideal for accessibility and seamless room transitions.

Bottom Rolling systems place the weight on a floor-mounted channel, making them suitable when ceiling or lintel cannot support the load.
Endfold vs Centrefold
Folding door systems can be configured in different ways depending on how the panels are intended to move and where you want them to stack when open. Two of the most common configuration options are centrefold and endfold systems. Understanding the difference helps ensure the layout works practically for the space and delivers the desired visual balance and opening clearance.

Endfold systems are designed to house the components as one side of the door, allowing the doors to fold and stack fully into a single room when opened. This is the most popular design when specifying folding doors.

In Centrefold systems, the components are fitted to the centre of the door panels, meaning the doors fold and stack centrally beneath the track when opened. This creates a balanced, symmetrical layout and is particularly suited to openings where equal clearance is required on both sides.
Our Internal Folding Systems:

HuskyFold 30 is a lightweight, sliding system for wooden doors up to 30kg. With no bottom guide channel required, it provides a seamless walkway and an uncluttered floor line. Suitable for DIY installations, it's ideal for wardrobes, room dividers, and utility areas.
Roomflex
Roomflex 40 and 50 offer smooth, modern room-dividing solutions with no bottom floor channel needed for a clear trip-free opening. These systems are installed with timber frame, whereby the doors are fitted offset from the track this would benefit from professional installation. Roomflex 40 supports doors up to 40kg, while Roomflex 50 is built with stronger components for heavier doors up to 50kg.

Soltaire Endfold & Centrefold
Soltaire Endfold and Centrefold are robust, premium folding systems designed for larger door weights up to 75kg. Both require professional installation due to their technical setup and alignment requirements.
Soltaire Endfold stacks the door panels neatly to one side within the room, maximising clear opening width, while Soltaire Centrefold positions doors centrally beneath the track for balanced weight distribution and a refined, symmetrical finish.
Conclusion
Our internal folding door systems are engineered to bring flexibility, style, and practicality into any home. With smooth operation, modern design, and solutions suited to a variety of spaces, they help you maximise usable space and enhance how rooms flow and function.
