P C Henderson Provides Support to Local Charities Ahead of the Christmas Period

by Kate Donkin on 18/12/2020

P C Henderson has held up its annual Christmas tradition and donated a number of Christmas turkeys to The Peoples Kitchen  - a local charity which helps homeless and disadvantaged people in the Newcastle area. In addition to this, team members have also grouped together this year to donate a wide selection of store cupboard essentials to another local charity – Durham Food Bank.

Over the past 5 years, P C Henderson has gifted each of its employees with a turkey to enjoy over the Christmas period as well as providing a number of turkeys to local charity – The Peoples Kitchen. This year the company kindly donated numerous turkeys to feed up to 100 people which will be served into hot meals for the homeless and vulnerable to enjoy over the festive period.

Team members also kindly came together this year to provide a wide selection of store cupboard essentials to Durham Food Bank. Donations included a range of urgently required items including tinned meat, instant potatoes, vegetables and biscuits as well as a number of items aimed to ensure that the less fortunate can enjoy their special day - including Christmas puddings, cake, chocolate, selection boxes and crackers.

Trevor Cossins, Managing Director at P C Henderson, commented “Donating turkeys to the Peoples Kitchen has become an annual tradition at P C Henderson but with the effect that Covid-19 has had on food poverty across the UK – we wanted to go one step further. Our team members were extremely generous in their donations and will undoubtedly go on to support a number of families and individuals in our local area”.

Established in 1985, The Peoples Kitchen aims to provide food, friendship and a future to the disadvantaged by offering hot food, warm clothes, a friendly face and support for independent living. The charity relies solely on volunteers to provide a range of services to homeless and disadvantaged people.

Durham Food Bank is one of 428 food banks, which is part of the Trussell Trust network, working to reduce poverty and hunger throughout the UK. Trussell Trust forecasted a 61% increase in food parcels required throughout the UK during October to December – equating to six food parcels given out every minute.

P C Henderson has also supported a number of other national charities throughout 2020 including Children in Need, Save the Children and Macmillan Cancer Support.
