P C Henderson, is proud to celebrate its 100th year in business this week - signifying an entire century of high quality manufacturing, product innovation and a dedication to worldwide exporting.Founded by Percy Cecil Henderson on the 24th February 1921, the company has come a long way since its humble beginnings where the business started in an unused loft space of a paint and varnish factory. Fast forward 100 years and the company has offices in the UK, Ireland, Holland and China, exports to over 70 countries worldwide and is firmly positioned as the go to provider for sliding door gear.Speaking about the companies continued success, Trevor Cossins, Managing Director at P C Henderson, commented, “Celebrating a centenary in business is a huge achievement, it puts us amongst a rare group of companies which have truly withstood the test of time and it certainly isn’t something that happens by chance. The company operates out of its 2.9 acre Bowburn based manufacturing plant where it has resided for the last 52 years. Showing no signs of slowing down, the company has achieved record sales, multiple award wins and some of the most successful product launches in its history in the last 3 years alone.“In the late 1920s’ Percy Cecil Henderson established the export side of the business – developing strong relationships in South Africa, New Zealand and China – regions which we still have a strong presence in today. I believe this courageous move has been a huge factor in the company’s longevity and success over the years.P C Henderson has won multiple awards for its exporting achievements, most notably ‘UK Export Business of the Year’ at the British Chamber Awards – a highly prestigious and respected award. Exporting currently accounts for 70% of the company’s annual sales with products reaching all four corners of the globe.

P C Henderson’s innovative Fantom Magnetic Door Stop is now available in a black and white finish. The Fantom Magnetic Door Stop is an innovative door stop solution which uses a neodymium magnet installed into the base of the door to pull a floor pin up and stop a door in the open or closed position. The accessory has been expertly designed to offer a more discreet and concealed alternative to a traditional door stop and has been extremely popular since the company first launched it last year.Andrew Royle, Sales and Marketing Director at P C Henderson, commented; “What’s great about Fantom is that, unlike conventional door stops, it offers a completely concealed finish meaning no trip hazard and a cleaner finish. The striker plate is fitted underneath the door and the stop sits completely flush to the floor -meaning there’s no unsightly hardware on display and all moving parts are hidden”.“We’re noticing more and more that our customers are coming to us expecting a full hardware solution – beyond our traditional sliding door hardware offering. As a result – we introduced Fantom to our range in September 2019 and it’s been very well received”.The accessory can be used with standalone swing doors, swing doors within folding systems as well as sliding doors – lending itself perfectly to a number of existing products within the P C Henderson range. The Fantom Magnetic Door Stop can be used on a number of surfaces including carpets, tiles, concrete and wood and is now available in satin, chrome, clear, brass, black and white finishes. Sliding and folding door hardware manufacturer, P C Henderson, has been specified for a state of the art hospital build in Breda, Holland.Covering 128,000 square metres, the new ultra-modern Amphia Hospital was officially opened in November 2019. The design brief focused on creating a new world of medical care – aiming for increased one to one patient contact, shorter waiting times, the highest level of health care and a peaceful and comfortable environment.A key component in achieving this was the design layout of 514 private luxury rooms with adjoining bathrooms. The contactor wanted to ensure ease of movement around the room - as well as enhanced privacy and comfort. A key solution in achieving this was through the specification of a sliding door system to separate the main room from the bathroom. P C Henderson’s Sirocco system was identified as the best solution for the project.Rene van den Biggelaar, Business Unit Manager at P C Henderson Holland, commented “Our Sirocco sliding door system is extremely popular in healthcare applications due to its integrated hydraulic self-closing feature which ensures the door always comes to a safe and gentle close”.In order to ensure a system that worked well for both patients and staff – a test room was set up during the build which was used for a number of months. This provided valuable feedback which led to some further customization of the product to ensure the best user experience.“The contractor required a system which could work with a 1.35m wide door - ensuring that even a hospital bed could be maneuvered through into the bathroom if required. We achieved this by manufacturing a custom made 2850mm length of track to replace the systems usual 2200mm track. We also designed a custom made stop which would allow the door to be held open half way across the opening - when only a small walk way was required”, continued Rene.

Sliding and folding door hardware manufacturer, P C Henderson, has recently donated materials to help with the rebuild of a primary school in Nepal after it was left devastated by an earthquake in 2015.Situated on a picturesque mountainside, the village of San Bhorle was left in ruins when the 7.8Mw earthquake hit, levelling every one of its 43 houses and primary school. All but one resident survived, but the community was left to rebuild their lives with no materials, tools or machinery.Learning Planet, a charity which helps remote communities design, finance and construct new schools, stepped in to help. As the only communal building in the village - and the only one which would have permanent power and internet access - the local community required a school building which could also be used for other events such as village meetings and celebrations. In order to achieve this level of flexibility, large bi-folding doors were needed in the centre of the building. This would allow the area to be used as a classroom when closed off or put to other uses when opened up. A folding partition wall was also to be installed in one of the classrooms, allowing teachers to create a private office space when necessary.Justin Wickham, Co-Founder and Executive Director at Learning Planet, commented “I was looking for a really solid system which would work faultlessly in a very remote location, for years, with minimal maintenance. After some research, I got in touch with the team at P C Henderson. I was really moved when they offered to donate all of the hardware free of charge. It was extremely heartening to get such a positive response”.P C Henderson’s Securefold folding door hardware system was identified as the best solution for the project. Carrying ten solid hardwood doors measuring 225cm high x 50cm wide - it was important that the system could comfortably cope with a heavy load - whilst still allowing for effortless and safe opening by adults and children.
